On May 15, 2010, the American Kennel Club (AKC) officially began competition for the AKC "GrandChampionship" title to all AKC-recognized pure-bred dogs. Prior to that date, the highest honor that AKC offered was the Championship. The progress toward the Grand Championship title can commence only after the AKC Championship is obtained.
In order to achieve the award of "GrandChampion" (GCh) in the AKC, each dog must have:
1) earned its Championship,
2) earned a minimum of 25 grandchampionship points,
3) thrice earned three or more points (a "major") in a show (each under different judges),
4) thrice defeated at least one other Champion, and
5) earn at least one point under a fouth judge.
Earning a grandchampionship is not easy task. Many dogs shown to their championship in AKC competition will never achieve this honor.
As the GrandChampionship is a new title and it is difficult to complete the grandchampionship title if one is campaigning another dog of the breed, the pursuit of the grandchampionship has not been a priority for us. However, we are proud to announce the following Gingery GrandChampions:
